Russian Ш and Ж

The Russian voiceless ш and its voiced correlate ж are pronounced slightly different from English sh as in show and zh as in rouge. These Russian 'hushes' are pronounced with the tongue curled slightly upward the way we do when we pronounce r. This gives the Russian hushes a somewhat stronger sound than the corresponding English ones.
