Who was Vladimir Mayakovsky?

Last Sunday the students of the Russian language centre had an excursion to the museum of Vladimir Mayakovsky. This poet of XX century is widely known for his revolutionary verse that flooded Russian language with neologisms and… for his passionate love to a woman named Lilia Brick. Lilia Brick was as well-known as Mayakovsky himself. Their love was just like an obsession. It played a big part in his poetry, life and death. The exhibition caused a controversy about Russian literature and Mayakovsy's place in it. Opinions differed - one part of students thought that Mayakovsky was a genius; another - that he was just a rude bumpkin.
