Ceremony of delivery of red diplomas took place in the Moscow State University. Second year this ceremony passes in conditions of special solemnity. Because of the big number of honours students faculties have been broken into two days. On the first day red diplomas were handed over to graduates of faculty of the Government, Institute of the countries of Asia and Africa, philological, geological, geographical, economic, legal faculties, faculties of journalism, psychology, soil science and arts, faculty of fundamental medicine, the Higher school of business, and also faculty of additional education. On the second day diplomas were received by experts of mechanic-mathematical faculty, faculty of calculus mathematics and cybernetics, physical, chemical, biological, historical, philosophical, sociological faculties, faculty of foreign languages, and also faculty of bioengineering and biocomputer science and the Higher school of economy. Upon termination of ceremony the concert with participation of studio of ball dance "Grace", students of faculty of arts and other faculties, the Academic chorus of the Moscow State University then all graduates were solemnly photographed at a front entrance in the Main building of the Moscow State University took place.

The international relations of the Moscow university are extended

  In the Main library of the Moscow State University between the Moscow State University and the Humboldt Berlin University signing the report on an exchange of students took place. Under the program it is selected about 40 students per year from the Russian high schools, including RGGU and the Moscow linguistic university. The most part — nearby 25 person — is made by students of the Moscow State University. Humboldt University — one of the oldest partners of the Moscow university (in following year to cooperation 50 years will be executed).   The rector of the Moscow State University V.Sadovnichy accepted the Cuban delegation into which structure have entered the Ambassador of Republic Cuba in the Russian Federation Jorge Marti Martinez, the adviser of Cuban embassy Kheorkhina Kamacho and the rector of Habana university Ruben Sardoja As is known, relations between Russia and Cuba were the warmest, but events of 1990th have led to actual break. Through contact of universities it is planned to develop relations between the states as a whole. "Talented students will help! MGU and SPbGU will get the status of federal Universities.

  The President of Russia Vladimir Putin charged the Government of Russian Federation with the consideration of question of getting federal status by MGU and SPbGU. By April, 1st Russian Government should prepare the appropriate project. Also, the cabinet of ministers plans to double financing of these Universities and invest them with maximum commercial and educational freedom.

IVAN ILYIN'S ARCHIVES WERE PASSED TO MOSCOW UNIVERSITY

On Monday, November, 20th the Archives of great Russian philosopher Ivan Ilyin were given to the Main Library of Moscow University. As will be expected, the Archives will be quantized and become widely available to all nominees of the Library. "Today the Archives of great Russian philosopher Ivan Ilyin who worked at the Moscow State University were passed to our Library. His last will was to know that all the materials are available to everybody. It made MGU responsible and obligatory for such a valuable present", - said Victor Sadovnichiy, the Rector of Moscow University. More than 40 years the Archives were at the University of Michigan, USA. On May, 2006 this Archives were delivered to Russia and given to Russian Fund of Culture for further passing to MGU. The half of materials wasn't published before.

The First Festival of Science will held at the Moscow State University since October, 27th till October, 29th

The tradition of carrying out such festivals in the developed countries ground long ago but Russia's just started this. The III Moscow International Visual Anthropology Festival

The III Moscow International Visual Anthropology Festival and Conference will take place on October 8-13, 2006 at the Moscow University. In many countries the festivals of Visual Anthropology have quite a long story. Our young festival has to solve a task of introducing the Russian audience to this sphere of cultural activity. Two previous festivals were entitled " Dialogue of Other Worlds" (2002) and "Tradition and Object(ive) Lens. In search of Integrity" (2004). The 2006 festival is called "Mediating Camera" 107 films from 30 countries will be demonstrated in the course of 14 theme seminars. The authors, researchers, professors and students will discuss them and outline the prospects of introducing Visual Anthropology on social sciences, education, museum management, local history and mass media.The organizators suppose that the festival will be conductive to more closer contacts between contries-participants and decrease of interest to Russian language.

Russian-German relations are getting more closer

On September, 14th, 2006 Federal State Baden-Wuerttemberg Minister of Education and Science Dietrich Birk visited Moscow State University. The German delegation included a lot of prominent scientists. "We're extremely interested in cooperation with high schools of Russia, especially MGU"- Dietrich Birk has begun his speech. He expressed his hope on widening traditional scientifical and educational contacts. Also German delegation introduced the motion of team-work in a sphere of "green chemistry" directed on decreasing the scales of pollution of the environment. Undoubtedly, ecological problems are relevant for Russia, so that this proposal for joint actions was met with approval by Russian side. Besides, the attention was attended to MGU Russian-German Institute of Science and Culture. It realizes the additional training of post-graduated students and students for getting deep knowledges, preparation for scientific-research practice on philosophy of science and technics, economy and law, etc. Unconditionally, Russian and German sides were satisfied with conference and it consolidated Russian-German relations.

Moscow State University has accepted the numbers of new students

On September, 1st the grand meeting, devoted to Day of the first-year student took place in the Assembly hall of the Main building. Directly ahead of it the rector of The Moscow State University V.A.Sadovnichy read to wide audience a lecture " Sciences, fulfilments and openings. Minds talented monastery - the Moscow university ", in which he has told about University and its great students. For those who could not get in the Assembly hall, performance of the rector was broadcast in foyer of the Main building on special screens. 4th European Bioenergetics Conference

14th European Bioenergetics Conference (EBEC)was held in Moscow, the capital city of Russia, at the Moscow State University from 22 till 27 of July. Enrolment to the Moscow Lomonosov State University

In the Main library of MSU took place an official enrolment (first enrolment in this year) of the university entrants on the physical faculty and the faculty of art. The entrants, enrolled on the physical faculty, were to pass Mathematics, composition (in written form), physics (orally). Rector allowed to provide 7 extra budget places for those who received not full pass mark. Entrants of the Faculty of art also passed the exams: composition, history of Russia, creative contest.

MGU graduate students

This year 25% of graduates of Moscow Lomonosov State University received gold medals. That is: 1500 students from 30 University faculties, almost each fourth graduate. "This number almost doesn`t change, - noticed the rector. - That is the proof that the level of education in MSU is traditionally high". MGU Satellite

The Universitetsky (Tatyana) satellite, weighing only 30 kilograms and brought to the site in an ordinary railroad compartment was put into orbit as part of the MGU-250 space/education project to mark the 250th anniversary of Moscow State University (MGU), the oldest in Russia. The project envisages the creation of a space-based platform for experiments to be conducted by scholars, university professors and students. Lieutenant General Vladimir Popovkin, the Commander of the Space Forces, and MGU Rector Viktor Sadovnichy watched the launch. "All the satellite's devices were made by MGU scholars and students," Mr. Sadovnichy told reporters earlier. "We will hear its call signs at a gala meeting at the State Kremlin Palace on January 25, which will be devoted to the university's anniversary," said the rector. "The launch of the satellite, which was named Tatyana, is the pinnacle of the anniversary celebrations," he said.

"I give you the university..."


The 25th of January is a big unofficial holiday for all Tatianas and for all students in Russia.Originally, it was a day commemorating Saint Tatiana. On January, 25 , back in 1755, Russian empress Elizabeth the Great founded the Moscow University. Since that this day has become the most favorite and the merriest holiday of students.It is the only Russian holiday bearing a woman's name.By the way, the name Tatiana is translated from Greek as "organizer."In the summer of 1754 Professor of Chemistry of the Russian Academy M.V. Lomonosov addressed a letter to Ivan Ivanovich Shuvalov, his friend, a noted patron of sciences, arts and literature, a young favourite of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna, with a proposal: to open a Russian University.Shuvalov chose the day of signing of the Edict not casually. So he retained the memory of his mother Tatiana forever. « I give you the university », - Shuvalov said on her name-day. These words became winged.Shuvalov was appointed the university's first Curator. His outstanding contribution to Russian science and education have not been forgotten: now, whenever Tatiana Day is celebrated to mark another MSU anniversary, the Winners of the Prizes named after the University’s founders, M.V. Lomonosov and I.I. Shuvalov, are feted and honoured. The Empress’ Edict said in particular: “Any good comes from an enlightened mind, and evil is eradicated thereby.”

The young Russian scientists received the European Academy prizes.


In the Round hall on the 31st floor in the mani building of the MGU the European Academy awarded 23 young Russian scientists - the winners of its contest - with its prizes. The Academy has been founded since 1988, it includes the sections of the all main sciences. Nowadays, 1800 as famous Russian scientists as a head of the MGU V. Sadovnicny work there. In March, 1992 one of the members offered to organize the contest for all who works on his country, not 33 years old yet and has published his works. On the whole 10 contests took place in the history, 226 scientists were awarded. The beautiful Moscow view appears from the window of the Round hall in the MGU. It goads all of the young scientists into working.

The Persian becomes more available.


On the 25th of December the first international seminar "Studying the Persian language in Russian and CIS: the possibilities and needs" in the Institute of the African and Asian countries attached to the MGU. Well-known Russian scientists took part in this seminar. Also, the special Iranian guests such as scientists and the head of the Cultural representation Muhammad Imanipur were invited to the meeting. The experts and linguists performed their works mainly in the Persian, they discussed a problem questions of studying the Persian for students and development of the methods of teaching. The fact that the quality of teaching the Persian got much better in Russia has been generally recognized and similar conferences will take place again. Because it helps the teachers to share their experience of the work with the students and strengthen the relationships between Russia and Iran.

How to become immortal?


How to become immortal - that is the long-standing question. It has bothered all the generations. Philosophy, science and religion try hard to find out an answer to it. The Caliostro's futile attempts could be forgotten but the idea to make an elixir of immortality acquired supporters in the modern academic world - in the MGU. The director of the Physical chemical biology institute Vladimir Skulachev said that he is about to discover a secret of immortality. He believes that that death is a disease like cancer and heart attack and mankind must battle with it. in fact he tries to make humans' lives a few hundred years longer what is almost immortality as compared with average life expectancy. His theory is based on fact that some organisms are programmed to suicide, so the scientist is explaining this fact. Also, he explores an influence of oxygen on cells - it helps them to function but it could be dangerous for their existence too. It can mess genes responsible for 150 years life . Of course, all the experiments will take years and we won't find out the results but we hope that our grandchildren will live longer and may be would have more time to solve all their problems.

The Moscow Government is going to prohibit the kissing in the public places such as the metro. They say that the modern society has enough freedom, but sometimes it goes out of control. It influences a lot on a common culture, on every day behavior of people. We have to defend the children of the bad influences first, try to be polite to each other. Nowadays there so many uncensored TV programs, films, etc., that censored now. The MGU students of the psychological department try to work it out, is there real need to forbid the kisses and tights in the public places - the natural manifest of emotions or maybe we just can change our life-style - to show the kids only good example.

Students, wake up Siberia!

Co-chairman of the Supreme Council of the "United Russia" Sergey Shoygu spoke at the meeting with the Siberian students. He said that nowadays Siberia and Further East is in need of filling up with the young people. He also called upon to "get up" Siberia and regions. The member of the Supreme Council, the governor of the Krasnoyarsk region A. Khloponin met with the MGU students. The meeting took place in the main building o the MGU, on the 5th of November. He told them about the situation in the Krasnoyarsk region and offered to the graduates of the institutes and universities to work in Siberia. He promised an interesting business and to obtain quick promotion. Both politicians are good examples of making career in Siberia, so their words are convincing for the students

The New Reality of the 36 Million

On the 29th of October the meeting of the youth movement's leaders took place in the "Political club" of MGU. The organization "Energy of life" had a round-table discussion with MGU students and members of youth organization "Students' initiatives". All these organizations are famous for their social activities. The leaders of the meeting marked the necessity for the young people to take part in the coming elections. "Young people finally stop thinking that everything in the country is decided leaving them aside. That's a fortune!" -one of the leaders was quoted as saying. Siberia and the Far East are full of active and initiative people. There are 36 million young people living in Russia, that's a population of a few European countries. Now it's high time to work out the federal law dealing with youth affairs.
